After a more moderate summer, the jet noise has significantly ratcheted up. The data report for September and October is attached.
This e-mail contains a special request: When you submit a noise report, it would be very helpful if you would list your general location, such as Coupeville, or Port Townsend, or Forks, or Eastsound, or Lopez, or Mt Vernon, etc. Many of you make comments describing how the noise is affecting you, which is helpful in terms of the UW study described below. Whether or not you make a descriptive comment, it would be helpful if you would just type in the general location if you have a spare two seconds. Sometimes the automated location feature does not work correctly. Also, please note that we make every effort not to include personally identifiable data in our reports, so we do not need your name or address.
Every two-three months or so, on behalf of Quiet Skies over San Juan County, I send this report to elected officials and regional residents concerning the jet noise from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. Thanks to our San Juan County leaders, we have a County-managed Jet Noise reporting website through which residents and visitors can record incidents of loud jet noise. Access to this noise reporting website includes our wider region, (Clallam, Jefferson, Skagit, Island, Snohomish and San Juan counties) and more folks have been reporting noise incidents. Feel free to share this website with your neighbors: gis.sanjuanco.com/aircraft-noise-reporting<https://gis.sanjuanco.com/aircraft-noise-reporting>
I would like to draw your attention to a study being conducted regarding the impacts of growler jet noise. Currently, we are involved in a University of Washington study on the health impacts of jet noise. This study is using data that YOU are reporting as one of several sources of data. (Thank you for your reports and comments!)
Please respond that you received this e-mail and the PDF attachment. If you would like more information, please let me know. If you know of others who would like to receive this information, please ask them to contact me.
